We understand that not all dental examinations are considered routine. Some oral assessments need to be done based on situational requirements. The Napa Valley Dental Group. has complete facilities and equipment to handle dental emergencies as they come. Our dental professionals and staff are capable and trained to address the emergency needs of patients. We have action plans ready to implement for immediate cases of dental trauma or pain.
What is considered as a Dental Emergency?
A dental emergency is a situation where the patient needs immediate attention because of these two major concerns:
- Dental trauma – This is when the patient has been involved in an accident that has injured any or a combination of the following: the jaw, the lips, soft tissues of the mouth, the teeth, and the gums.
- Pain – This happens when the dental pain of the patient is at distracting levels, to the point that it is close to impossible for the patient to focus on anything else aside from the pain.
The main difference between an emergency and a non-emergency examination, though, is the sense of urgency present. Having bridgework done or getting teeth cleaned are routine procedures that typically do not involve dental trauma or pain. Procedures such as those do not have a sense of urgency and are therefore not considered as requiring emergency exams.
A patient needing an emergency exam may be a walk-in or brought in by other people who are trying to help the patient. However, there may also be times when an emergency dental situation is called in by the patient or the patient’s companions.
