Snoring and Sleep Apnea

Snoring seems to be a common problem among adults (and even in children). The noisy sound of a snore is a nuisance to others who are in a restful sleep. Snoring normally comes with age, but it is also more common in males and obese individuals. Snoring among children may be a symptom of enlarged tonsils and adenoids.

Snoring

When a person snores, it indicates that there is an obstruction in the air flow, and this should not be taken for granted. When your tongue and upper throat touch with the soft palate and uvula in the collapsible part of the air passage, this is when a vibration sound is produced during breathing.

Snoring should not be taken lightly because it may have effects on a person’s health and social life. It can make the person an object of ridicule. Excessive snoring can also cause disturbance and sleepless nights to your bed partner, not to mention that the person snoring will have inadequate rest as well due to disruptive sleep patterns.

Sleep Apnea

But snoring does not just affect relationships and work productivity. It may also signal health problems especially if sleep apnea causes it. A person with this disorder tends to have pauses in their breathing when they sleep, due to a narrowing or collapse of the upper air passage, and this can occur up to more than a hundred times at night.

Aside from pauses in breathing, a person suffering from sleep apnea will experience loud and chronic snoring, choking, gasping and snorting while asleep, insomnia, waking up with a dry mouth and throat, irritability due to restless sleep, morning headaches, and fatigue.

Sleep Apnea Treatment

Serious lifestyle modification is one of the treatments for sleep apnea. People who are overweight should also consider losing weight. Exercise, quit smoking and minimize alcohol intake and the use of sleeping pills. Your last meal for the day should be taken at least 2 to 3 hours before sleeping, and avoid caffeine just right before you hit the sack.

However, if your sleep apnea is moderate to severe, consider seeing a sleep doctor who can provide you with the necessary treatment needed. Severe cases are usually treated using a mask-like machine called Continuous Positive Airflow Pressure (CPAP). This device covers your nose and mouth to allow for regular airflow while you sleep.

The price was right the staff was above and beyond. I also had a beautiful doctor Kumar taking care of me do it was s very pleasant experience. She did the tooth extraction flawlessly and I’m a big man with big teeth. I had read reviews before I chose this dentist and the 5 stars in my opinion aren’t enough. They have a repeat customer and after a couple of disappointments it’s nice to be able to say that. Thank you Yuvika and staff.

I have the good fortune of having Dr. Bhullar as my dentist in Napa, Ca. He has taken care of my entire family, even putting my daughter through braces. He has done Root canals and Crowns, fixed broken teeth, you name it. We trust his work and his advice completely, and all his work has been outstanding. Dr. Bhullar takes time to explain all the procedures. He explains all the pros and cons of the treatment so that I can make an independent judgment. His staff is also extremely helpful! From the moment, you walk in the door, you sense this is no ordinary dental office (Thank You Laura) for your patience and help in explaining everything. You guys are the BEST!

Honestly I’ve always been extremely skeptical of dental appointments and have had a few bad experiences, but I could not be more relieved when leaving my appointment today. I definitely felt “”taken care of”” by the quality of care I received as well as their extension of help in multiple aspects of what I needed.Very pleased and again, relieved
